Discover the quiet process of gel printing and stitching in this two-day workshop. Create unique prints using natural materials, then transform them into varying projects including a furoshiki wrapping cloth with simple hand stitching. This workshop offers a calm, creative space to explore colour, texture, and design.

Suitable for ages 18+

Printmaking is an almost magical process. This immersive two-day workshop will explore the creative possibilities of the gel plate printing process on both paper and fabric. Elements from your printed fabrics will be cut and appliquéd onto a base cloth. Using simple running stitch and/or seed stitch, you will embellish and enhance your designs. You will create and take home a collection of paper prints for cards or art works, a mini printed and stitched wall hanging, and a generously sized printed and stitched Furoshiki—traditional Japanese cloth used for wrapping and carrying objects.

Materials Fee $30 to be paid directly to the tutor: Kit will include acrylic paints for printing, paper, fabric, thread, Gel plates and tools will be provided by the tutor.

If you own or can borrow a gelatine plate (A4 size or smaller), and/or a roller you are welcome to bring to workshop.

Student Requirements:

Table covering (plastic sheet or large sturdy garbage bag)
Notebook with blank pages for ideas and design development
Pen and pencil
Sharp scissors
Apron
Baby wipes
Disposable gloves (if desired)
Water bottle

About Your Tutor: Barbara Dawson is an artist working across drawing, photography, printmaking, and stitch. While her current practice focuses on layered, contemplative works, she brings a love of process and material exploration to teaching. Her workshop shares accessible techniques in print and stitch, encouraging participants to experiment, slow down, and discover their own creative voice.
